It really doesn’t matter where in the world you call home, we believe the info we’ve provided on this website is relevant, helpful and possibly life saving in the event of an emergency! I’m a Dad and Granddad and my family and their safety is paramount. Having a plan and being prepared are hugely important – in fact, it could save your life or that of a loved one.
We’d like to think it will never happen
You’d like to think it wouldn’t happen, but as you know, disasters happen every day. From Floods to Earthquakes, from Tsunami to huge Storms. It doesn’t matter that it’s not a catastrophic event or that your house may still be standing. The fact is that if any disaster event, natural or otherwise, was to occur in your area, you might have to survive without power, water or worse!
Remember emergency resources are limited!
If a natural or man-made disaster was to occur, are you prepared? Remember that the Emergency services are likely to be overwhelmed by calls from people just like you and me, and while they will manage their priorities there are only so many of the professional emergency services to help out.
With a bit of preparation, your survival backpack or bug out bag, you’ll be okay but you may just need to sit tight for a few days.
In New Zealand, we’re asked to be prepared to manage on their own – or as a family group – for (at least) the first 3 days after a disaster. As we’ve experienced again recently, it can take that long for any help to arrive, so being prepared in advance can ensure you get through with minimal stress. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for your neighbors too!
Be safe out there!
